These contours represent the depth to the top of the downgoing plate (i.e. the subduction zone fault interface location). The depth is currently set at ~56 km. This is a little deep for the slab model, but the slab model is constrained by seismicity (which has considerable depth variation, so cannot be considered precise).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20150226_japan\/20150226_japan_slab_interpretation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20150226_japan\/20150226_japan_slab_interpretation.jpg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nWe have had another small aftershock.
