Bouganville Island likely experienced MMI IvV. From the <a href=\"http:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/learn\/topics\/mercalli.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USGS page<\/a>, &#8220;Felt indoors by many, outdoors by few during the day. At night, some awakened. Dishes, windows, doors disturbed; walls make cracking sound. Sensation like heavy truck striking building. Standing motor cars rocked noticeably.&#8221;<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20141207_png\/20141207_png_local_map_MMI.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20141207_png\/20141207_png_local_map_MMI.JPG\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis map shows the slab contours (an estimate of the subduction zone plate interface). These contours are estimated by <a href=\"http:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/data\/slab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hayes et al., (2012)<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20141207_png\/20141207_png_local_map_slab_contours.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/earthquakes\/20141207_png\/20141207_png_local_map_slab_contours.JPG\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis region has been active in the past couple of years. There have been compressional, <a href=\"http:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/earthquakes\/eqarchives\/poster\/2013\/20130707.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extensional<\/a>, and transform earthquakes since 7\/7\/2013. This map shows the earthquake epicenters (blue dots), their moment tensors, magnitudes and date of rupture. <a href=\"http:\/\/earthjay.com\/?p=1586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here<\/a> is my page regarding the earthquakes from April 2014. <a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.usgs.gov\/of\/2010\/1083\/h\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This<\/a> is the USGS tectonic poster for the region that I used as a background.
