THEME ID: 3369
CATEGORY: Geologic/Soils;
ABSTRACT: This data set contains subsurface information compiled from hardcopy and digital public data available at Ohio Division of Geological Survey, Ohio Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, Class-one industrial waste sites and out of state agencies. The data in the dataset come from a number of different sources, which include hardcopy reports, well completion cards, core and sample descriptions, core and sample examination, open-hole geophysical well log analyses, and seismic reflection data. Location information is plotted in Ohio State Plane south zone coordinates from map coordinates digitized from well locations on hardcopy township well-spot maps which have been digitally corrected for political subdivision boundaries. Locations may not match reported State Plane coordinates from well completion information and most likely do not represent exact physical locations of boreholes either surface or at total depth. This data set was created as part of a project to update and revise the Structure contour map on the Precambrian unconformity surface in Ohio and related basement features (Baranoski, 2002). Contours in Baranoski (2002) were originally hand digitized using Intergraph software and hardware. Contours, well data, faults, tables and drawings were and subsequently imported into ArcGIS shapefiles and reformatted The ArcGIS shapefiles were exported to be compiled with report and data tables as a pdf file. Data shows the location of Class-1 industrial waste disposal sites, brine disposal sites, locations with Precambrian paleotopographic erosional high areas, and locations drilled below into or proximal to the Precambrian unconformity surface and surrounding region. The revised version (Baranoski, 2013) was updated using Geographix software by adding well locations and digitally hand contouring. Updated maps and well data were exported as UTM Zone 17 84W-78W Longitude NAD 83 decimal degrees shape files from Geographix into Microsoft Excel and ARC. Microsoft Excel well data was imported into ArcGIS during final map finishing and into Adobe InDesign for report tables. The final report, map, and tables were compiled into a pdf file using Adobe InDesign. Zip file contains the following GIS features: structure contours lines, faults, seismic lines and wells.
